Official State Gun
Tennessee is among a handful of states that have declared an official state firearm. In the case of the Volunteer State, it’s the Barrett Model M82/M107 .50-caliber rifle, a high-powered sniper rifle that was developed by native son Ronnie Barret and is manufactured in the state. Tennessee lawmakers made the designation in 2016. Source
The Bible as Official State Book
As of early 2020, there was a legislative effort underway to make the Holy Bible Tennessee’s official state book. Gov. Bill Haslam vetoed similar legislation in 2016, saying that establishing the Good Book as the state’s official book would be unconstitutional and would “trivialize” the Bible, “which I believe is a sacred text,” by recognizing it “only as a book of historical and economic significance.” Source
