Idaho Dumb Laws

Conditional Cannibalism

Camelback Fishing

Plenty of websites claim it’s illegal to fish while sitting on a camel in Idaho. And sure, it’s a hilarious mental image — but don’t hold your breath for a citation. Though there are many sources for this bizarre claim, our search through Idaho’s state code turned up nothing to confirm it. Until someone finds a statute banning camel-based angling, we’re filing this one under legal legend.

Candy Gift Limit

Giving someone more than 50 pounds of candy is illegal in Idaho. While enforcement is virtually nonexistent, this regulation seems geared toward preventing bribery or excessive gifting. Source

Sweeping Rules

The city of Eagle prohibits sweeping dirt or other refuse into public streets. It’s part of an effort to keep storm drains and roadways clean. Source

Nighttime Chicken Sales

According to countless “weird laws” lists, it’s illegal in some parts of Idaho to sell chickens after sundown unless you have the sheriff’s permission. It’s a charming bit of lore — but after digging through Idaho’s laws and municipal codes, we couldn’t find a credible or primary source confirming this. It may be more barnyard myth than legal fact.
